I don't know why I thought the ceremony started at Five pm. I must have looked at that invitation at least a dozen times. Is senility starting to creep in already? It started at Eight pm!

So, it's no surprise that when I showed up at about 4:30 and there were nothing but Teamsters still setting up the decorations, everyone was confused. I hastily retreated and drove back down PCH.

Since I literally had HOURS to kill, I went down to that ARCO station on Santa Monica... you know the one, just East of the 405? and filled up the Beemer. Then I thought... ARCO... Arena... The Lakers/Kings game was going on from Sacramento!

Okay, this has nothing to do with the wedding, but you know, I had time to catch some of the game. Not that it was much of a game, mind you. The Lakers had it won before I could get to the nearest TV screen. And by then, it was time for me to return for the ceremony.

After driving around mindlessly, possibly due to the fact that I was musing over the odd relationship things that have happened to me this year (yes, I've had a lot of issues there recently), and after getting stuck in traffic on the 5 to Dodger Stadium for "Eric Karros T Shirt night," I wound my way back to the coast. This wouldn't have happened if those baseball fans got to the game on time!

Not to worry. I made back to Malibu with moments to spare and at least half a tank of gas remaining. When they look at the roster of people who helped to contribute to the smog alerts in Los Angeles, my name will be there twice, and not as a typo.

Back to the matter at hand. The union of [livejournal.com profile] joeylaurenadams and [livejournal.com profile] rdowney_jr!

What a fine job those Teamsters did! The place was immaculate, and lovely! It was a bit of a cool night, actually... but it made the hearts all the warmer!

It was a perfect setting for a beautiful ceremony. I actually brought along my video camera, and I think I got some shots of the processional, but then some security guy took it away and removed the tape! I didn't know I couldn't use video. Something should have been said. I mean, it's not like I was going to go to "Entertainment Tonight" with this.

Anyway, after that, I just tried to use my eyes and ears as my personal camera for the rest of the ceremony.

Indio was wonderful and very impressive! He’s getting to be such a little man!

The ceremony itself was perfect. Not too long, and not too sentimental. It hit all of the right notes! I’m starting to think I’m some sort of “Wedding Critic!” Maybe that could be a new feature on the show?

After all of the good stuff happened and we were presented with the newlyweds, it was time for the reception!

Did Joey have me in mind when Shrimp with cocktail sauce were served? Not to mention the cheeses, a Minnesota staple!

I have to admit, there were a lot of people there that I didn’t know, but who seemed to know me. Apparently, all of Robert and Joey’s relatives watch the [livejournal.com profile] late_late_show religiously! Some of these people have a lot of opinions about what I should do to improve the broadcast. Especially vocal was someone named… Uncle Ned? Uncle Ted? Who was he? I have no idea. But he was being very, what’s the word? Insistent… For all I know he was a confederate of a certain Red Haired Talk Show Geek, crashing the event in the guise of a knucklehead. A convincing performance! Bravo.

Most of the people I knew were in the Wedding Party, and were taken up with official duties prior to taking a seat at the front dais, so I didn’t have much of an escape, except at the bar, until we were seated for dinner.

I got to entertain some of the children with my magic skills, while we waited for the wedding party to finish their photos. Just like on a movie set, it takes a long time to make the spontenaiety happen.

When we got seated I was glad to see that at least I got to be at a table with [livejournal.com profile] portia_de_rossi and Frankie. And Charlie Sheen and his new fiancée, Denise Richards, who I’m sure will be appearing on my show to promote her new film “Undercover Brother.”

Elton and Sting played, and what a lovely performance, too! Robert, I think everyone knows has a great singing voice and he performed, but the highlight was Joey covering Stevie Wonder’s “For Once In My Life!” She’d been karaokeing, obviously, because she sounded fantastic!

It got the biggest ovation of the evening.

Also wonderful was the “cake smashing” segment, when both Joey and Robert went wild with the frosting. It rivaled the best work of the Three Stooges!

I was at the bar for the bouquet toss, so I’m not sure who wound up with that prize, but then came the Garter… And Robert (rightly so) took his time removing it… with his teeth! It had been at least 20 hours since I saw something like that!

As for the garter toss, well, yes. I admit it. I did catch it. I’m told that means I’ll be the next person to wear a garter. Gee, thanks!

Okay. I guess it means that I’m supposed to be the next to get married. Uh huh. Well, I hope no one places wagers on this because you might as well have bet on Medaglia d’Oro to win the Preakness.

Otherwise, we danced and danced! I don’t think I’ve danced this much since I missed a shift bartending at Studio 54 and I had nothing else to do for three hours!

I danced with Joey, her mom, her sister Karen (who was flirting quite intensely), and there was that Conga Line I started…

Otherwise, it was just a lot of fun, laughs and most importantly, love.

Congratulations and Best Wishes to the Bride and Groom!

(Oh, and when you get a chance, see if security can return my video camera…?)

Aye, Medaglia doesn't have the best stats for the Preakness, does he? Ho hurm... I'm actually going for Emblem myself, we need another living Triple Crown Winner.
