mrkilbornIn my last missive, I posed a question about Video Hits One. It was kind of a softball, since tonight was the Concert For New York, which was shown on VH-1.
Lots of our favorite LJ users were there, like all the members of SNL, basically.
My complaint was there was a bit of a sound problem. Anybody else notice this? Lots of microphones cutting out, and a lot of insanely bad ad libs, filling time while the techies were setting up the next band.
Look, I know what it takes to put together a show of that magnitude. I do it every night! But, you have to plan it out, and time it out a bit better than that!
Films from Woody, Spike, Marty, Silent Bob! I mean, it could have been, as the kids say, TIGHT!
Also, could the people speaking look at the material they're going to present at least ONCE before they get on stage? This happened at the first telethon. It only takes an extra thirty seconds to read the copy out loud before you go on stage. El Exigente, that's demanding!
And how about all the cursing, with all the firefighters' kids right in the front row, huh? Mariah Carey, that's tasteless! Most amusing was when Adam "Operaman" Sandler sang about Osama having "Smallcox." They bleeped the word spoken, but had it up on the screen for everyone to read!
I don't mean to be too critical, it was a fine program and it raised both cash and spirits for New York (especially after that game against the Mariners)!

jimmy_fallon for his brilliant "U Can't Touch This" 80s Medley, which was one of only two times I laughed out loud during the entire 18 hour broadcast. You know I love quizzes, so...
Can you guess what other moment in the show made me laugh? (Hint: it was a celebrity on stage.)
