Grammy Slammee.
Feb. 18th, 2003 03:21 pmPersonally, I don't really care about hosting an awards show. It's a thankless job if you do it right and you get ridiculed for months if you screw it up (or YEARS in the case of my boss, Dave Letterman).
So, even though I'm on CBS, they wanted Jon Stewart to host the Grammys for the last couple of years, which made me a little antsy. And I knew I had no real chance of hosting the show this year, since it was at New York's famed Madison Square Garden and we're right in the middle of sweeps!
Still, I have to question the statement the Grammy people released about the choice of host, and I quote:

More Presenters, Unique "Host" Team Named
Personalities associated with NYC will introduce show segments and performances
GRAMMY.com
"In a nod to the return of the GRAMMY Awards to New York City after a five-year absence, the Recording Academy announced today that performances and special segments on this year's show will be introduced by personalities associated with the city of New York itself. Among the celebrities and artists scheduled to appear are Marc Anthony, Ed Bradley, Queen Latifah, Paul Shaffer, Jamie-Lynn Sigler and Robin Williams, with more to be named."
Because, of course, you want to have Canadian Bandleader Paul Shaffer in there when doing a tribute to NYC. Or one of the stars of "The Sopranos" since that show takes place in... oh, wait! New JERSEY! Or Robin Williams, since he was born and raised in... Oops! San Francisco! And yes, when you think of New York, the first person that springs to mind is... Ed Bradley!
Still, I'm honoring the commitment to the
late_late_show and will do my Pre Grammy show on Friday at 7pm Pacific/10pm Eastern time! And Tomorrow is the big Old School Show...
Vince, are you going to be there?
And a special hi to
prepon just because!
