A Non-Stop Party
Apr. 13th, 2002 10:32 pmWhen I heard about the game down in San Diego, I thought it was an afternoon affair. As it turned out, It was at 7pm!
jodi_lyn and I hung out pretty much all day (and night) and I'll tell you about it in a moment.
It was actually just as well that it wasn't a day game, since Jodi didn't seem to be able to get out of bed until around noon. We went and had brunch at my favorite place, Pier View Cafe in Malibu. I love the Eggs Florentine.
Anyway, about last night. Yes,
paltrow wasn't able to make it. Some last minute commitment took her out of town. Luckily Jodi was there and agreed to fill in as the second guest after
rachael_leigh. Assuming there will ever be another
late_late_show, Gwyneth will be on it.
Jodi was a great sport for jumping in at the last minute and I think the show turned out quite well after all. The fact that Rachael and Jodi were both in "She's All That" certainly helped the chemistry.
On a more serious note, I have to admit, it's starting to feel more like work doing this version of the show. I'm taking this week off from both versions of the show, and maybe I'll be able to assess what's going wrong. I might just take two weeks from the online late late show and try to come back strong for May Sweeps. We'll see.
Letterman had a big party for his 55th, featuring such luminaries as
affleck and surprise guests Robin Williams and Oprah Winfrey!
Hey, no competition!
portia_de_rossi had her little shindig at her place. It was very much a fun evening, if maybe just a little sedate. We were all a bit tired I think, after the whole
late_late_show event, and the Letterman birthday. Portia was very nice about letting us push the furniture around and do some dancing.
Actually, I wanted to chat a bit more with Portia. She seems so intriguing. I suppose part of it is the fascination with Australia, and part of it is her personal style, but I do need to learn more about her.
We wrapped up at around 4! No wonder Jodi didn't wake up!
Today, Jodi and I drove down at about 2:30 and we spent the afternoon exploring San Diego (I hadn't been here since
pam_anderson and I saw the troops on the aircraft carrier off). Jodi and I went visiting some of the missions, hanging about on the UCSD campus (It's lovely!), and visiting some markets, then going to the harbor, before heading to the ballpark for the game.
The Dodgers lost to the Padres 6-4, but I had no idea that Jodi was such a baseball fan. She was playing scoreboard, We both were laughing about the Yanks loss to the Bosox! She actually asked about Barry Bonds (yes, he hit his 7th home run today), and seemed to enjoy the both the game itself and the fact that we had more time to spend together today.
We're just having a brief coffee at this little cafe before driving back to LA.
Next time, I'll make sure I know what time the game is before agreeing to go! Or, if it turns out like this again, maybe I won't!
