Here's everything you don't need to know about the mad LATE NIGHT TALK SCRAMBLE!

1. [livejournal.com profile] dave_letterman's contract with CBS ends this summer. This is what is creating all of the movement and speculation.

2. ABC wants Letterman to move into the 11:30 slot currently occupied by Ted Koppel's "Nightline." To that end, they have offered Dave a goodly sum of money, rumored to be over 30 million dollars. (I'm not permitted to say what the figure is, but even Bill Gates would blink at it -- if it was left as a tip at his favorite restaurant.)

3. There is speculation about what CBS would do if Letterman moves to ABC. I am not able to inherit Dave's 11:30 slot there, since I am under contract to Worldwide Pants, Inc., that's Letterman's production company. Clearly I could not and will not compete directly with Dave.

4. Both Howard Stern and [livejournal.com profile] jon_stewart's names have come up as possible hosts to fill the potentially vacated CBS timeslot... and remarkably, some think that CBS might just swap out and bring Nightline to the eyeball. Personally, I'd bet on Dave remaining right where he is before I would buy into that "flip-flop" scenario.

5. It is very possible that if Dave does move to ABC, I would follow with him to a 12:30 time slot there as well. At this point it is also just as possible that I would wind up with Bill Maher, unemployed.

6. Dave promised that he would make an announcement about what he plans to do when he returns from vacation on Monday, so we'll all have to wait until then to even get an inkling about what's going to happen.

7. Carson Daly is not a factor.

8. Just in case everything goes wrong (and that's CERTAINLY possible...) I have branched out into the big screen!

"Old School" is a classic comedy in the grand tradition of "Animal House." The basic concept is a bunch of guys past university age form a fraternity in a college town. Mayhem ensues! And listen to my co-stars:

"SNL"'s Will Ferrell
The Firecracker from "King of Queens," Leah Remini
My old "Swingers" buddy, Vince Vaughn (where's YOUR journal, Vince?)
The Daughter from "24," Elisha Cuthbert
Emmy winning judge from "The Practice," Holland Taylor
That guy who played "Cupid," Jeremy Piven
And Howard Stern's new yukster, Artie Lange.

It's directed and co-written by Todd Phillips ("Road Trip") and is produced by Dreamworks! It's tentatively slated for an October release... which would be just in time for me, if I'm out of a job!

I could get used to this "movie-making" stuff!
