I have to say that when things go right, they really do. Like today, for instance.
The afternoon was all about
debra_messing, who took me out for a bite... and we also had lunch!
We have a strange and wonderful relationship. She's strange and I'm wonderful!
But seriously, we had a lovely afternoon in Venice. We began by dining at a fantastico French Bistro called
Lilly's. Warm, charming, and lovely. And so was the restaurant atmosphere!
It was all about the French. We shared some Foie Gras (which I don't normally do) as an appetizer, but maybe
natalie_portman is rubbing off on me, because I selected the ratatouille over the succulent lamb chops! I felt I made the correct choice there.
I was surprised the place wasn't overrun with diners. I'm sure it will be very soon.
Vive la France!Meanwhile, Debra and I were picking up where we sort of left off. I like being around her because she is intelligent. She can talk about pretty much anything you can think of, and to me that's really a wonderful thing. She's quick witted. One exchange:
Kilborn (to server): I'll have the foie gras.
Messing: That's it! Your goose is cooked!
Okay, so maybe it didn't read so well, but I thought it was clever and cute. We have the same sort of sense of humor, so it's fun hanging out with her. If there was more time, we could have just parked the car on the beach and taken in some of the sights along the boardwark. I could see doing that, maybe getting a bag of popcorn on a sunday afternoon, just relaxing and making funny comments about the goings on there.
Debra is a very special person. I never doubted it. I never suggested otherwise. I'm sure we'll continue to have lunches. She wants me to pick next time! This could turn into a contest to find the best "luncheon experience." We both have a little bit of a competitive streak!
Unfortunately, she couldn't come to the show tonight, where Michael Feinstein was tickling the ivories of his famed Baldwin Grand. The fact that he was singing a ton of love song standards wasn't lost on me. It was kind of a perfect capper to a wonderful day.
And that's all I have to say about that.
